Chapter 14

I hated to admit how close we’d been getting. How I’d been leaving my room more and more in the middle of the night and joining him in his bed. Slowly using my mouth to awaken him before climbing on top and riding him into ecstasy. Only to roll over, laugh with him then fall asleep in his arms.

I was having fun.

And all the while, my sister slumbered on. Her vitals were still strong, but her lids never fluttered. Her heart was beating but nothing could wake her up. The doctors told me that she was dreaming and when her mind felt safe, she would come back to us. I wondered if she’d be disappointed at how I handled the entire Alex situation. I wondered if she would be pissed off that I hadn’t kept him away from the Kiriakis family.

Lately, I came to the beach and sat and stared out for a while. I thought about life and how it was a strange journey. Even now, I was just watching the tide touch the sand. It would go out and it would come back. The sun was setting, and it created the most interesting painting across the sky. A good sunset would never go out of style. When I was a child, I thought of God having an invisible hand and invisible paint, and when he was ready, he would set the sky on fire just right.

Suddenly, I felt someone sit down in the sand next to me. I turned and met up with a pair familiar blue eyes.

Andrew.

“Hey,” he said.

We hadn’t spoken much since his coming home party and I avoided him. Not because he done anything wrong, but because I honestly didn’t want to upset Darien again. The morning after he mentioned it at least twice.

“Hi,” I kept my gaze on the sea.

“I feel as though this is awkward.”

“It’s not.”

The sound of the tide roaring back and forth was the only sound to be heard for a while until I spoke again.

“When Dana and I were kids, we loved the beach. Our mom…she was out of it a lot and that was our sanctuary. I think that’s why I love it here.” He nodded.

“I think I always took the view for granted.”

I turned and looked at him then, but before I could say much more, I could see Darien stomping towards us over Andrew’s shoulder. His face had the deepest scowl. I sighed and Andrew looked over to see what had caught my attention.

“Fuck,” he bit out. “I swear he’s a part of the CIA or MI-6.” Andrew stood to face his brother.

“Brother,” he said.

“Why are you near her?” Darien questioned. I could hear Andrew take a deep breath as I too stood up.

“Calm down,” I said.

No one heard me.

“I asked you a question, boy,” Darien said through his teeth.

“We were sitting and talking, brother,” Andrew bit out.

Darien seemed to loom over his brother, his face stoic and his eyes turned to me.

Is that all?”

“No, we were fucking right here on the beach,” I rolled my eyes.
